About instances—Consoles

Each client or entity is an instance of Sage Intacct. A console is a Sage Intacct interface used by accountants, partners, and certain multi-entity companies to set up, modify, or access instances. Console users slide in from the console to access an instance. In each instance, console users are identified as external users that can perform accounting and implementation tasks.

Consoles and instances

For a console user to access a client instance, two things must be in place: the console must be linked to the instance, and the console must have access to it. Together, these make up the relationship between a console and its instance companies.

When a partner creates a new instance from within the console, both the link and access are set up automatically. If the instance was created outside the console, you may need to contact Customer Service to get these established manually.

• The link is what makes an instance visible in the console. Without it, the instance simply won't appear in the console's list of companies, even if access has been granted. If the link isn't in place, contact Customer Service. They'll establish the link and, if needed, remove any prior association that could prevent it from connecting correctly.

• Access controls whether console users are allowed to enter a linked instance. If access is disabled, the instance will appear in the console's list but no one will be able to open it. Contact Customer Service to have access enabled.

Once both are set up, console users can slide in to the instance — meaning they log in to the console once and switch directly into any linked instance without entering separate login credentials for each one.

External users

An external user is a user who accesses a company by sliding in through a console rather than logging into the instance directly. External users can complete accounting and implementation tasks in an instance company. Learn about external users.
